Are you in someone's family tree?
Family trees are about families, and families are full of living people. This is how we look after you – even if you have no account.
Living persons are protected
A person counts as living when no death is recorded and they were born less than 110 years ago, or when the year of birth is unknown. Living persons are shown only to those the tree's owner has expressly given access. They are never on public pages – not even as a number or an empty box.
Adoption, donors, gender identity and earlier names need a permission of their own, even inside the tree.
What you can ask for
- Access: to learn whether you are in a tree with us, and what it says about you.
- Correction: to have mistakes about you corrected.
- Erasure: to have information about you removed.
- Removal from a public page: also for a deceased member of your close family.
How to do it
Write to [PLACEHOLDER: e-mail address]. Tell us who you are and which person or page it is about. We answer within 30 days, and we contact the owner of the tree. We never share your address with the owner unless you ask us to.
On a public family page you can also use Report at the bottom of the page.
